How document upload works
VerifiMe uses your identity documents to verify your identity against Australian Government databases. Here's what happens:
Document capture:
You upload photos or scans of your identity documents
VerifiMe extracts text from the documents using OCR (Optical Character Recognition)
The extracted information is compared with what you entered
Documents are checked for authenticity and security features
Government verification:
VerifiMe securely checks your documents against official government databases (Document Verification Service - DVS)
This confirms your documents are genuine and the information is accurate
All checks are automated and secure
Accepted document types
Depending on your service provider's requirements, you'll need to upload:
Australian Passport:
Photo of your passport's photo page
Make sure all text is clear and readable
Include the entire page in the photo
Avoid glare from lights
Australian Driver License:
Photo of the front of your driver license
Photo of the back if your state requires it (some states have information on both sides)
Digital driver license screenshots are accepted in some cases
Medicare Card:
Photo of your Medicare card showing:
The card number (10 digits including the reference number)
Your name as it appears on the card
The card expiry date
Your Individual Reference Number (IRN) - the number next to your name
Digital Medicare card (from Medicare Express Plus app) is accepted
Document photo requirements
For best results:
Good photo checklist:
✓ All corners of the document visible
✓ Text is sharp and readable
✓ No glare or reflections covering text
✓ Document is flat (not curved or folded)
✓ Photo is straight (not at an angle)
✓ Good lighting (not too dark or washed out)
✓ Plain background
Common problems to avoid:
✗ Blurry or out-of-focus photos
✗ Parts of the document cut off
✗ Glare from camera flash or lights
✗ Shadows covering parts of the document
✗ Finger covering part of the document
✗ Document photo inside a protective sleeve that creates glare
Special document considerations
Long names:
Some names span multiple lines on documents
This is normal and VerifiMe handles it automatically
Make sure all parts of your name are visible in photos
Medicare card specifics:
Include all 10 digits (9-digit card number + 1-digit reference number)
No spaces in the card number
Enter the correct Individual Reference Number (the digit next to your name)
Expiry dates on some cards may need special formatting
Digital documents:
Digital driver licenses and Medicare cards can be used
Take a screenshot of the digital document
Make sure the screenshot includes all required information
Screen brightness should be high enough for clear text
