The Four Verification Status Boxes
1. Document Capture
What it shows: Whether the customer successfully submitted identity documents (such as a driver's licence or passport) that meet two critical criteria:
The images are of adequate quality for verification purposes
The documents contain all the correct security features and characteristics expected of genuine identity documents of that type
Why it matters to you: This confirms that your customer has not only provided identity documentation, but that the documents have passed initial authenticity checks. The system scans the submitted documents to verify they contain the proper security features, formatting, and elements that genuine identity documents should have—helping detect fraudulent or tampered documents early in the verification process.
Typical statuses:
Pass: Documents were submitted with sufficient image quality AND contain all expected security features and characteristics of genuine documents
Fail: Documents were not submitted, images were of inadequate quality, images were taken on an busy/complex background, or the documents lack expected features (potentially fraudulent or altered)
Incomplete: Document submission and feature analysis is in progress
2. Document Data Match
What it shows: Whether the information extracted from the customer's identity documents has been cross-checked against independent authoritative sources, such as government databases, to confirm that records of these identity documents actually exist.
Why it matters to you: This verification goes beyond just comparing what the customer typed against what's on their document—it confirms with external trusted sources (like government registries) that the identity documents are genuine and officially issued. This process validates that both the documents and the individual are real, providing a critical layer of fraud prevention by detecting fake or fabricated documents that might otherwise appear authentic.
Typical statuses:
Pass: Document details were successfully verified against independent authoritative sources, confirming the documents are genuine and officially recorded
Fail: Document details could not be verified with external sources, or records do not exist in authoritative databases
Incomplete: Verification against external sources is being processed
3. Face Check: Liveness
What it shows: Whether the customer completed a biometric scan that captures them moving and being responsive, confirming they are a real, live person present during the verification.
Why it matters to you: Liveness detection prevents sophisticated fraud attempts where someone might try to use a static photograph, pre-recorded video, or deepfake to impersonate another person. By requiring the customer to move and respond during the biometric scan, the system ensures the individual completing verification is physically present and actively participating in real-time.
Typical statuses:
Pass: Biometric scan confirmed a real, responsive person was present and moving during verification
Fail: Liveness could not be confirmed or fraudulent attempt detected (e.g., static image, busy/complex background or video used)
Incomplete: A Biometrics face scan is yet to be completed.
4. Face Check: Photo Match
What it shows: Whether the customer's live facial biometric (selfie) matches the photograph on their submitted identity document.
Why it matters to you: This confirms that the person completing the verification is the same person whose photo appears on the identity document. It's the final link proving the customer is who they claim to be.
Typical statuses:
Pass: Live selfie matches the document photograph with high confidence
Fail: Facial biometrics do not match the document photo
Incomplete: a comparison of the biometrics scan and the facial data provided on a photo ID are currently under review.
How These Checks Work Together
These four verification components create a comprehensive identity verification framework:
Document Capture confirms valid, authentic identity documents with proper security features were provided
Document Data Match verifies the documents are genuine and officially recorded in authoritative government and or issuing authority databases
Face Check: Liveness proves a real, responsive person is present during verification
Face Check: Photo Match confirms that person is the document holder
When all four checks show "Pass" status, you have high confidence that:
The customer provided genuine identity documents with authentic security features
The documents are officially issued and recorded in government systems
They are a real person actively participating in the verification (not a bot, photo, or fraudulent actor)
They are the legitimate owner of those documents
Using These Indicators for Compliance
These status boxes help you meet your AML/CTF obligations by:
Providing audit evidence: Quick visual confirmation that customer identification procedures were completed
Flagging issues: Any failed checks alert you to potential problems requiring manual review
Supporting risk assessment: Verification outcomes inform your customer risk classification
Demonstrating due diligence: Clear documentation of verification steps taken
What to Do When Checks Fail
If any verification box shows a "Fail" status, the system will typically assign a medium or high risk rating to the customer, depending on which checks failed and how your organization's AML/CTF program is configured.
When a failed check triggers a risk rating, you should:
Review the customer's profile for more detailed information about why the check failed
Refer to the mitigation templates generated by your AML/CTF program settings—these templates are available in the platform and provide guidance on appropriate next steps for the specific risk scenario
Follow the mitigation steps outlined in the template, which may include:
Contacting the customer to request re-submission or clarification
Requesting additional documentation or information
Conducting enhanced due diligence procedures
Escalating to senior compliance staff for review
Document your mitigation actions in the customer's record using the guidance provided in the template before determining whether to pass or fail the overall assessment
The mitigation templates are specifically designed based on your organization's AML/CTF program requirements and help ensure consistent, compliant handling of failed verification checks.
